Tomchei Shabbos:

This organization has been in operation in the Denver Metro area for many years.  Tomchei Shabbos distributes food and money to individuals and families requiring assistance.  They have been helping people on the West Side for several years.  They are appealing for help to continue funding their operations.

We are all urged to support this vital local charity.  Contributions may be made payable to “Tomchei Shabbos”, and either mailed directly to Nahum Swinkin, 139 S. Elm Street, Denver CO 80246, or simply leave the checks with Tony Hamer for onward transmission.  All contributions are Tax Deductible.

Urgent Appeal for Local Residents in Need [Aniyei Ircho]:

The Rov recently established a fund for local residents in dire straits, literally lacking the resources to put food on their table! These local people need assistance on a monthly basis. Please help with this very urgent need! Please make checks payable to Congregation Zera Abraham / Special Fund and forward to the Rov, Rabbi Yechiel Erlanger or Tony Hamer. Alternatively, you can arrange for automatic transfers to be made from your checking account, on a monthly basis, into the Fund Account. Letters of Authorization are available from the Rov, Rabbi Yechiel Erlanger and Tony Hamer. The Rov will distribute the funds. Please consider the Aniyei Ircho any time you make a contribution to an out-of-town Charity, and to set aside some of your Tzedaka monies for the needy in our community as well. Thank you very much and Tizku L’Mitzvos.

Pearls of Torah:

Ish imo ve’oviv tiro’u v’es shabsosay tishmoru. - “Every man: your father and mother shall you revere and My Shabbosos shall you observe.” (19:3)  Kesav Sofer adds that the mitzvah to revere parents applies even if the son is an ish, self-sufficient man, who is in no way dependent upon his parents.  The enjoinment to revere parents originates from Hashem, not from one’s dependency on his parents.

There are three partners in the creation of a human being – two parents and Hashem.   Shuvah Yisrael explains that it is not sufficient to revere only two of the partners.  Hashem, the “third” partner, claims his portion – observe the Shabbos.
